[GAME] Formula D Sochi Race

Hi Guys,

Today I will be writing about the Formula D board game, with an overview of a 10 player race we held recently. It was great fun, with a mixture of experienced players and first time players.

We raced on the Sochi track which is avaliable in the 5th track pack. We did a 10 player 1 lap thrash.

The Race

All drivers had were lined up on the grid. Qualifying turned out quite well. With the most experienced people being in he mid-field. All the drivers got off the grid well. With only a few drivers rolling 1 while the majority rolled 2.

Jordan had a slow start. Pete started well and was challenging for the lead. Both the Green cars of Daniel and Jake made up places. Whereas the two Yellow cars of Joe and Andrew fell back. Nick Edmonds rolled a perfect 12 to slide into the first corner and perform his mandatory stop.

In the next turn the rest of the grid bar Jordan made it into the first corner. Jake was the only car to overshoot by just 1 space causing him to suffer one tyre wear point. Nick Edmonds made it into the next corner and performed his one stop.

Nick started to pull out a lead, making it into turn 3. Jake, Pete, Conner, Joe and Daniel made it into turn 2. Jordan made his stop in turn one and was catching Andrew, Ben and Darren who had not made their stop in turn 2.

Again Nick made it into the next corner, amazing everyone with his good dice rolls. Jake was in second and battling hard with Conner, Daniel and Pete. Joe didnt make it into the corner meaning the others who has missed turn two previously could catch up. Jordan was now just one space behind Darren.

(In this picture Nick had just moved his car so it looks like he is two corners ahead)
A pattern was starting to emerge. Nick again made the corner and had a comfortable lead.
Pete fought hard and used the purple dice (11-20) He rolled a high number making him overshoot by 3 spaces. Daniel moved into third place while Jake fell to 4th and Conner hanging on in 5th.
Joe held 6th and made it into turn 3 but missing the corner meant the others could catch up. Ben was 7th followed by Andrew (8th) then Jordan (9th) then Darren (10th).

Nick was still one step ahead of the field in his own race. Pete was holding second Jake dove up the inside to take 3rd Daniel dropped to 4th. Conner missed the corner. Andrew made it into the corner and to move up to 5th with Darren making it into turn 4 and moving up to 6th. Jordan Joe and Ben missed the turn. Nick charged off. Jake held 2nd into turn 6 with Daniel moving up to third and Pete moving down to 4th. Andrew passed a slow moving Conner for 5th Darren missed turn 5. Jordan Ben and Joe made it into turn 3 and where fighting over 8th place. After another two rounds Nick makes it into the dreaded 3 stop chicane. Jake holds 2nd and Daniel and Pete fight for 3rd. Andrew and Conner battle for 5th against Conner. Ben makes up places and passes Darren for 7th. Joe passes Jordan for 9th.

Nick had no issues in the 3 stop corner and made it through unscathed. Pete made a daring move gearing up to highest gear. (6 20-30) this meant he had to gear down 3 gears costing him an engine point and gearbox point. He moved up to 2nd. Jake was 3rd and Conner moved up to 4th and capitalised on an over cautious Daniel who only had one bodywork point left. Andrew was 6th and Ben was 7th Darren held 8th over Jordan and Joe had fallen behind in 10th.

Nick had completed all the corners and was virtually home-free. Jake made it into the second-to-last corner. Pete who was in 3rd gear (4-8) was level with Daniel who was on the inside and in a higher gear (7-12) This meant that Daniel got to move first as he had the inside line and was in the higher gear. Conner was just ahead of Andrew. Ben was just behind in 7th. Joe unfortunately retired after he tried to pull a Pete and crashed his car off the board.

Nick won his first ever race and Jake crossed the line in 2nd Daniel managed to fight off Pete for 3rd while he tiptoed to the finish. Conner and Andrew where able to take the corners quicker and beat Pete to the line. Ben came home 7th and Jordan was able to just beat Darren to 8th.
