[DIECAST] Corgi Review: Lotus Evora S Special Edition

Hi Guys,

Today we are looking at a Corgi Diecast model. It is also slightly different to what we look at normally because the this model is road car as apposed to the Racing and Formula 1 models I review on this blog.

Corgi Toys are owned by Hornby who also own Scalextric as well as Airfix. This is worth bearing in mind, because when you see Scalextric produce a new car, like when they started producing Lotus models, such as the Evora and Exige, you may see the other brands owned by Hornby to start producing them also.

With Lotus both Corgi and Scalextric made Lotus models. Other cars this has happened too are the Jaguar XKR (Airfix, Scalextric and Corgi) and Aston Martin. (Airfix, Scalextric and Corgi).

The Lotus partnership has opened up Corgi to produce many models of Lotus cars. Such as the Lotus E23 driven by Kimi Raikkonen and many race variants of the Evora. Such as the two from the British GT. Both car raced in traditional Lotus colours with the Number 48 car racing in the Red, White and Gold and the number 49 raced in the Black and Gold. Corgi and Scalextric also produced a green and yellow Evora which was the Scalextric Club Car. There are plenty of other Lotus models to collect.

Corgi Models are generally the cheapest Diecast on the market, but prices can vary quite a bit. I have seen prices range from as low as £9.99 a model to up to £49.99 for the same model.

Corgi also seemed to be the easiest brand to come by in most model shop. My local model shop has other brands of diecast by in general the majority of their stock is Corgi models.

Hornby has done a good job of making their brands the most prominent.

Lotus Evora S

The Evora S was launched in 2011 and was inspired by the Lotus Renault F1 team. The technical aspect of the car remained the same. The car however carried the iconic Black and Gold livery similar to the Lotus F1 car.

The Lotus became highly accliamed as it combined the agility of a finely balanced sport model with an instinctive responsiveness of a thoroughbred Lotus.

The name Evora comes from the words; Evolution, vogue and aura.

Engine:        Supercharged 3.5 Litre V6 DOHC VVTi 24-Valve
Gearbox:      6 speed manual transmission
Power:         345Bhp at 7,000rpm
Max Speed: 178mph
0-60mph:     4.4 Seconds

The Model

Product Code: CC56501
Scale:              1:43
Year:               2011
Limited to:       2000 pieces

This model comes in a nice display box with a cardboard exterior, with some Corgi history on the back and licensing information and other features. The inside sleeve has a picture of an old and new Lotus in the background. The model also comes with a card that has some information about the Evora S and the number of how many it is limited too. The model is very well detailed and has separate moving wheels. There is no driver in the seat of this model which is one of those feature that will divide people. I however think it is a good thing there isn't a driver in this car.

My Thoughts

I do like this model. The box does say "For Adult Collectors" but I think in, my opinion if the person collecting it see it as a model and not a toy then there isn't an age limit. Corgi is a great starting ground for those new to Diecast. I myself prefer Minichamps. That's just me. But Corgi is a great value for money brand. Where the price is cheaper you cannot expect unbelievable attention to detail but to the untrained eye the models will look like the real thing. If you are looking for higher levels of detailing then other brands such as Spark or Minichamps will offer that, but at a higher price.

If you are looking to start a collection then Corgi Models may be the best option for you!!

Where to get it

You can BUY this car from Mcslots as part of a double car offer.
