[DIECAST] Corgi Review: James Bond 007 Aston Martin DB5 Goldfinger

Hi Guys

With the imminent release of James Bond's new mission Specter in cinemas. I thought I'd bring you a review of one of Bond's most iconic cars. The Aston Martin DB5. This model is produced by Corgi in 1:43 scale.

The DB5 and Bond.

The Aston Martin made its Bond debut in the Goldfinger movie, which was the third Bond movie in 1964. This was the start of the relationship between Bond and Aston Martin which would span over 11 movies. Originally Ian Fleming wrote Bond driving an Aston Martin DB Mark III. But with the introduction of the DB5 in 1963 they decided to use the companies latest car.

The car chosen was in a Silver Birch colour and its appearance in the movie saw an increase in sales of the DB5 as well as the company's profile grow.

The DB5 would make appearances in Goldfiner, Thunderball, GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, Casino Royale and Skyfall.

Standard DB5 specs.

The high-performance DB5 Vantage was introduced in 1964 featuring three Weber twin-choke 45DCOE side-draft carburetors and revised camshaft profiles, delivering greater top-end performance at the expense of overall flexibility, especially as legendary Webers are renowned as 'full-throttle' devices. This engine produced 315 hp (235 kW). Only 65 DB5 Vantage coupés were built.

  • Engine: 3,995 cc (243.8 cu in) Inline-6
  • Power: 282 bhp (210 kW) at 5,500 rpm (210) Net HP
  • Torque: 288 lb·ft (390 N·m) at 3,850 rpm
  • Weight: 1,502 kg (3,311 lb)
  • Top Speed: 143 mph (230 km/h)
  • 0–60 mph (97 km/h) Acceleration: 8 s

Bond's DB5.

Bond's DB5 came with a few modifications and gadgets. It's quite an extensive list featuring:

  • Revolving Number plates
  • GPS Dashboard
  • Tyre Slashers
  • Smoke Screen
  • Oil Slick
  • Rear Bullet Proof screen
  • Front Wing Machine Guns
  • Ejector Seat
  • Arm Rest Controls. (Controlling, Oil Slick, Smoke Screen, Machine Guns and Bullet proof screen)
Some of these features are found on this Corgi model.

The Model.

The model comes with loads of great features. It has all the gadgets that Bond had. It has a working ejector seat, bullet proof shield, Machine guns and the revolving number plates. It comes with two figures. Bond in the drivers seat and a bad guy to eject. The ejector seat is activated by a switch on the side. The bullet proof shield comes up and the license plate revolves.

Corgi have done a good job. They've made a car that looks great and is greatly detailed and has all these little extra mechanical features which can be used and changed how you like. The switches are only on the left side so if you don't want them displayed you can show the right side. Great effort to get all these details and features onto a 1:43 scale model.

You can BUY this car from Mcslots on eBay. For less than £20 it's a great price for a very nice car!!!

Thanks for reading !!!
