[DIECAST] Minichamps Review: Sahara Force India VJM05 (N.Hulkenberg)

Hi Guys,

I don't want to sound like a broken record, but we have another Force India Diecast review. So far we have reviewed the VJM01 VJM02 VJM03 and VJM04. But today I am reviewing one of my most important models I own. It is Nico Hulkenberg's VJM05. The reason it's so important to me is because it was my first diecast model. Bought for me by my wife. (She was my Girlfriend at the time).

Same as all the other Force India's it's 1/43 scale diecast by Minichamps.

2012 F1 season.

The 2012 season had one of the most dramatic starts to an F1 season in a long time. With seven drivers won the first seven races. Jenson Button, Fernando Alonso, Nico Rosberg, Sebastian Vettel, Pastor Maldonado, Mark Webber, Lewis Hamilton. Alonso won the European GP at Valencia breaking the trend, but a new record was formed.

Alonso and Vettel battled it out for the championship with Vettel winning his third championship, and his third in a row.

Force India's 2012 season.

The team was officially Sahara Force India and carried large Sahara decals on the side pods. Adrian Sutil left the team for some legal reasons. Di Resta retained his seat and Nico Hulkenberg who was the test driver was promoted to the race seat.

The two drivers enjoyed high success in the season. With both drivers scoring regularly. Both drivers scored 4th place as their best finish. With Hulkenberg taking his 4th at Belgium and Di Resta was just shy of a podium at an eventful Singapore GP.  Because of Perez scoring podiums in the Sauber, Hulkenberg signed up for the 2013 season.

Brazilian GP 2012.

Force India had quite a deficitte to Sauber in the points but it was still possible for Force India to pass them.  Nico Hulkenberg lead for 30 laps round the Sao Paulo track battling hard in the wet conditions against both McLaren's of Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton. I remember watching the race and hoping that Hulkenberg would win but unfortunately Hulkenberg had a minor slip when he got on some wet track. This allowed Lewis Hamilton to pass. But Hulkenberg wouldn't give up. He chased him down into the first corner but just ahead was a Caterham and Marussia fighting. Hulkenberg dove up the inside of Hamilton at the first corner. They collided with Hamilton coming off worse and retiring, Hulkenberg spun and Jenson Button passed. Hulkenberg was handed a drive-through penalty and dropped down to 5th. Paul Di Resta crashed at the end and brought out a Safety car which the race ended under.

Had Hulkenberg won the race and Di Resta was able to pass Kamui Kobayashi they would've beaten Sauber in the constructors. However in the end Sauber finished 6th and Force India 7th. The VJM05 still was the most successful VJM as it scored a record 109 points. The first time the reached triple digits and 30 points more than the VJM04.

Hulkenberg finished just 3 points shy of 10th in the WDC on 63 points.

My Thoughts.

I love this car the VJM05 has got to be one of my all time favourites and Nico Hulkenberg is my favourite driver. There is one slight hiccup with this model and that is that if you look inside the car above Nico's left arm, you can see a track guide, the track is Melbourne which Hulkenberg did not score at after a first lap collision. Apart from that the car is immaculate and the car led a race and almost won!! It's also my first ever diecast car and has led me to purchase all the other VJM's. I will be collecting all the Force India's and I hope there are many more to come. 1:43 scale cars are the best as they are easy to display and they have excellent levels of detail.
